Born in 1979, Gilles Alonzo attends piano classes at Marseille’s Regional Conservatory and Lyon’s CNSMD. By entering the Film Music Class he affirms his desire to work for motion pictures.
During that period Gilles Alonzo composes original music for several famous silent films like THE CABINET OF DOCTOR CALIGARI, before composing for a dozen documentary films. In 2008 he composes the score of LES MIETTES directed by Pierre Pinaud (Best Original Soundtrack Awardat the Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand 2008 and Grand Prix at the Aubagne Films Festival 2008, and the film itself won the Cesar’s Best Short Film Award).
In 2013, he composes the music of the short film SHADOW directed by Lorenzo Recio, awarded at the 2014 Clermont-Ferrand’s international tv film festival as well as the 2014 Cannes’s film festival (Unifrance award).
Gilles Alonzo composes several acclaimed scores for documentaries, and collaborates with Nguyen Trong Bhin for BERTRAND TAVERNIER, CINÉASTE DE TOUTES LES BATAILLES (2010), Christel Chabert for PAUL RICARD (PORTRAITS) and with Clara Villermoz for LE SEXE DE MON IDENTITÉ(2012).
He also signs several original scores for tv documentaries such as THE VENICE’S GHETTO, directed by Emmanuela Meschini Giordano, LA SÉQUESTRÉE DE POITIERS directed by Christel Chabert, THE ALBERT GÖRING’S CASE and Jesse Owens –Luz Long, two documentaries directed by Véronique Lhorme.
Since March 2012, alongside his composer career Gilles Alonzo oversees the Film Music Composition class at the Lyon National Academy of Music (CNSMD).
More recently, Gilles composes in 2017 the music of the documentary DES MAUX POUR SE DIRE directed by Christelle Chabert as well as one for the short film ROSE ET MOLLETONNÉE from director Frédéric Chane-Son. Lastly, he receives the award for the music of LOIN at the Montreal International Film Music Composition Competition.
After an experience in Theatre composing for the play LES DÉFERLANTES by Eric Louviot based on the novel written by Claudie Gallay, Gilles Alonzo is currently working on the creation of an original music for the oldest surviving animated feature film THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED released in 1926. He also composes the music for Julien Sauvadon’s next film DE PARTICULIER À PARTICULIER.
