LAURENT EYQUEM

2019 UCMF AWARD for documentary film music for CLASH OF FUTURES
Public Choice Award – World Soundtrack Awards 2018 for NOSTALGIA
Breakthrough Composer of the Year, International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA)

Born in Bordeaux but living Los Angeles, Laurent Eyquem recently worked on NOSTALGIA by Mark Pellington for which he received the Public Choice Award at the 2018 World Soundtrack Awards and on the documentary CLASH OF FUTURES created by Frédéric Goupil & Jan Peter which won him the 2019 UCMF AWARD for documentary film music.

Following his critically acclaimed, multiple-award nominated film-scoring debut for Lea Pool’s MOMMY’S AT THE HAIRDRESSER’S which earned him three international nominations, Laurent wins the 2014 Breakthrough Composer of the Year from the International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA). He also shares two other nominations alongside Ennio Morricone and John Williams for “Best Drama Music” and is nominated at the prestigious World Soundtrack Awards as Discovery of the Year (2013).

The popularity of his themes and melodies (which make his unique touch) have led him to compose the music of more than 20 films in the last 6 years, including the film WINNIE (biography of Winnie Mandela) featuring the Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson and Oscar nominee Terrence Howard. For this film, Laurent had the rare privilege (after Bono, Peter Gabriel) to record with the Gospel Choir of Soweto. He also worked closely with legendary songwriter Diane Warren and arranged and orchestrated the WINNIE theme song interpreted by Jennifer Hudson.

His work is often described as having a lot of depth, maturity and “experience”. With traditional classical roots, European influences and sensibility, Laurent’s compositions, often compared to those of Georges Delerue or Jerry Goldsmith, are alternately melodious, powerful and emotionally charged.

Laurent Eyquem began his classical pianist training at the age of 6 at the Bordeaux Conservatoire. Many years of studies, first prizes and a passion for film and soundtracks (Vladimir Cosma, Jean-Claude Petit, Maurice Jarre, George Delerue …) were all factors that led Laurent to compose music for movies.
